Sofronis Avgousti has resigned as the manager of the Cypriot national team to take the same post at Apollon, signing a contract that takes him through May 2027. This becomes his third stint in this role, having done so previously from 2016-2019, and again just over a month after his first term ended until November 2020. In addition, he also played for Apollon as a goalkeeper for most of his career, winning a championship with them in 2006, and he was even born and raised in Limassol. As a manager, he has won the Cyprus Cup twice, once with them, and once with Omonoia, and he has also managed at AEK Larnaca, APOEL and Karmiotissa. This is the second time just this season that he’s left a post to take another one, as he left Karmiotissa in October to take the national team job from Timur Ketsbaia, and now he leaves the national team to return to this role. In the end, he lasted just two months as the national team manager, winning one match and losing the other three.
