There have been major developments in the investigation into the murder of Stavros Demosthenous, as police have tracked down and arrested a Greek Cypriot former footballer wanted in connection with the case. He was apprehended at his home in Nicosia earlier today.

As previously reported, authorities issued a warrant on Saturday night for the owner of a motorcycle discovered in Limassol, believed to be linked to the cold-blooded killing of the 49-year-old businessman and football figure.

Fresh reports from OMEGAlive indicate that police are also looking for a second suspect in Larnaca, with investigations now widening across several districts.

From the moment the authorities were alerted to the shooting, the investigation began yielding early results. Crucially, it appears the assailants left behind key traces, which could prove pivotal in solving the case.

The first significant clue – revealed during the Omega Channel’s Friday night news bulletin (17 October) – was a baseball-style cap, believed to have been worn by the driver of the getaway van. The hat has been sent for forensic testing to determine whether it contains DNA that could link it to a suspect. However, police admit this could be difficult if the person who wore it is not a Cypriot national.

Investigators have also retrieved CCTV footage from various locations reportedly used by the suspects during their escape. At one point, one of the men is seen without a head covering, while in another clip, a man appears to be wearing the same hat found at the scene.

A third crucial find is a set of charred bullet casings discovered inside the white van that was found burning in Germasogeia shortly after the murder. The casings are 7.62mm calibre, pointing to the type of weapon used in the crime.

However, due to the state of the evidence, it may be difficult for forensic experts to extract conclusive results.
