Giorgos Koumas has formally resigned from his role as President of the Cyprus Football Association during today’s Executive Committee meeting. Koumas, a long-serving football administrator from Paralimni, had been at the helm of the CFA since March 2018 and involved in the federation’s affairs since 2005. His lengthy chapter in Cypriot football administration has now come to a close, sparking considerable interest in who will step in to lead the CFA next. Despite stepping down from the presidency, Koumas will retain his seats on both the FIFA Council and UEFA Executive Committee. Sources close to the matter suggest that his resignation is closely linked to the findings of a criminal investigation led by Alexandra Lykourgou, which has been submitted to Attorney General Giorgos Savvides for review and further instructions. According to 24Sports.com.cy , a decision on how to proceed — including whether criminal charges will be filed — is expected sometime in June. Lykourgou’s report reportedly outlines serious offences, including conflict of interest and breaches of compatibility regulations, involving Koumas and other individuals with potential felony implications.
