The summer transfer window has already delivered a mixture of high-profile arrivals, significant departures and managerial changes across Cypriot football, with several clubs reshaping their squads ahead of the 2026–27 campaign.

AEL Add Experience with Papageorgiou and Kapino

AEL Limassol have strengthened their squad with the signing of Giorgos Papageorgiou from Ethnikos Achna.

The 29-year-old midfielder returned to Achna last summer during Hugo Martins’ tenure and enjoyed a productive season, making 34 appearances, scoring two goals and registering eight assists.

Papageorgiou previously spent two seasons with Nea Salamina and another two with Apollon Smyrnis in Greece. Prior to his move abroad in 2021, he had spent his entire career at Ethnikos Achna. Across 207 senior appearances, he has contributed 14 goals and 22 assists.

AEL have also secured the services of experienced Greek goalkeeper Stefanos Kapino. The 33-year-old arrives following a two-year spell with FC Winterthur in Switzerland.

Kapino’s career has taken him through Panathinaikos, Mainz, Olympiacos, Nottingham Forest, Werder Bremen, Arminia Bielefeld, Miedź Legnica and Panetolikos, while he has earned nine caps for Greece.

On paper, it is a signing that brings considerable pedigree. However, questions remain over recent form. Winterthur conceded 97 league goals last season, while Kapino’s most recent clean sheet came in May 2025.

APOEL Begin a New Era

APOEL have confirmed the departure of Pablo Garcia following a challenging campaign.

Garcia’s side recorded 18 victories and eight draws in 41 matches during the 2025–26 season. While performances fluctuated, the Uruguayan often found himself working under exceptionally difficult circumstances.

Injuries, financial restrictions and limited squad depth left APOEL stretched throughout the second half of the campaign. Towards the end of the season, academy players were regularly called upon to fill the bench, while goalkeeping options were reduced to 18-year-old Michos.

The club have now turned to Nikos Papadopoulos to lead the next chapter.

The Greek coach returns to Cypriot football for the first time in 14 years, having previously managed Olympiakos Nicosia and Ethnikos Achna before establishing himself as one of Greece’s most respected managers.

Following successful spells with Iraklis and OFI Crete, Papadopoulos enhanced his reputation further at Levadiakos, guiding the club to a historic fifth-place finish during the 2025–26 season.

His departure from Levadiakos has not been without controversy. The Greek club publicly stated that a verbal agreement had been reached regarding his continuation for another season before APOEL’s approach changed the situation.

Papadopoulos now faces arguably the biggest challenge of his managerial career. At APOEL, success will be measured by trophies, European qualification and the ability to compete at the top of Cypriot football.

Montnor Completes Move to Omonoia

One of the most significant domestic transfers of the summer has seen Jaden Montnor leave Aris Limassol to join Omonoia.

The 23-year-old Suriname international spent three seasons at Aris following his arrival from Austrian side SKN St. Pölten.

During his time in Limassol, Montnor made 121 appearances, scoring 27 goals and providing 14 assists as Aris established themselves among the leading clubs in Cyprus.

Omonoia will hope the winger can provide the creativity and attacking threat required to build on last season’s title-winning campaign.

Aris Continue to Invest

Aris Limassol have completed the permanent signing of Brazilian winger Gustavo Paje following his loan spell from Villa Nova FC.

The 21-year-old made 17 appearances after arriving in January, scoring once and registering two assists.

The club have also strengthened defensively with the arrival of Russian centre-back Aleksandr Martynov.

The 21-year-old began his career with BATE Borisov before moving to Turkish side Serikspor. According to reports, Aris paid approximately €300,000 to secure his services.

Martynov arrives with more than 100 senior appearances already to his name. Interestingly, one of his goals came against Aris themselves during BATE Borisov’s UEFA Champions League qualifying campaign in 2023.

Pikis Departs as Olympiakos Reunite with Kosti

Olympiakos Nicosia have confirmed the departure of forward Iasonas Pikis after 18 months at the club.

The 25-year-old scored 14 goals and provided three assists in 49 appearances before a foreign club activated his reported €50,000 release clause.

According to reports in Greece and Cyprus, Armenian side Pyunik Yerevan are expected to be his next destination.

Meanwhile, Olympiakos have reappointed Giorgos Kosti as head coach just over two months after his departure.

Kosti was the man who guided the club to promotion and now returns in an attempt to oversee another rebuilding project.

The club have also strengthened their defence with the signing of former AEL full-back Christoforos Frantzis. The 25-year-old leaves Limassol having made 102 appearances for the club.

Oršić’s Pafos Chapter Comes to an End

Pafos FC have announced the departure of Mislav Oršić following the expiration of his contract.

The Croatian international joined the club in January 2025 and played a role during the most successful period in the club’s history.

During his time at Pafos, the club secured a historic league title, added the Cyprus Cup and continued to establish itself as a force both domestically and in Europe.

In announcing his departure, the club paid tribute to his professionalism, experience and contribution both on and off the pitch.

Oršić has since completed a move to Dinamo Zagreb.

AEK Refresh Their Squad

AEK Larnaca have parted company with Spanish midfielder Pere Pons following four successful seasons at the club.

The 33-year-old made 167 appearances, scoring 14 goals and contributing nine assists during his time in Larnaca.

Replacing him is experienced Tunisian international Amor Layouni.

The winger arrives after a career that has taken him through Sweden, Norway, Egypt and Australia, as well as European competition and international football with Tunisia.

Layouni has recorded 79 goals and 65 assists in 353 appearances and has represented Tunisia on 15 occasions.

He becomes AEK’s fourth signing of the summer following the arrivals of Kostas Pileas, Zacharias Adoni and Nicolas Andereggen.

Karmiotissa Mix Youth with Experience

Karmiotissa have adopted a varied recruitment strategy this summer, bringing together promising young players and experienced professionals.

Stevie Panayiotou arrives from AEL after progressing through the club’s academy system and representing Cyprus at youth level.

Jack Savvidis joins after a career that included youth spells with Olympiacos, AEK Athens, Chelsea and Arsenal.

Spanish right-back Ruben Garcia has also signed after spending last season with Orihuela in Spain’s fourth tier.

Perhaps the most eye-catching arrival is that of former Greece international Panagiotis Tachtsidis.

The 35-year-old midfielder boasts an impressive career that includes spells with Roma, Genoa, Torino, Olympiacos, Nottingham Forest, Lecce and CFR Cluj.

Across his career, Tachtsidis has made 433 senior appearances, scoring 31 goals, providing 53 assists and earning 25 caps for Greece.

Semedo Brings Successful Omonoia Spell to an End

Willy Semedo has departed Omonoia after three highly productive seasons.

The Cape Verde international leaves having scored 50 goals and registered 26 assists in 128 appearances.

Since arriving from Al-Faisaly in Saudi Arabia in 2023, Semedo has become one of the most influential attacking players in the Cypriot game and leaves with a league winner’s medal to his name.

Reports continue to link the winger with a return to the Middle East, although interest from clubs in Cyprus has also been reported.

The Kakoullis Situation Remains Unclear

Few transfer stories have generated more confusion than the proposed return of Andronikos Kakoullis to Omonoia.

While Omonoia announced an agreement in principle regarding the striker’s return, AIK subsequently released a statement insisting that Kakoullis remains their player.

The Swedish club stated that Aris Limassol had neither exercised the purchase option contained within the player’s agreement nor met the conditions required to trigger an automatic transfer.

Loizos Loizou has completed a move to Red Star Belgrade, providing the Cyprus international with an opportunity to compete regularly in European competition.

Portuguese midfielder Rui Moreira has left Olympiakos after a single season, while former Omonoia head scout Laurent Dechaux has returned to Cyprus as Sporting Director of Omonoia Aradippou following a spell with Moroccan side Hassania Agadir.
