Criminal Prosecutions Are Ongoing – Minister of Labour

The Minister of Labour, Giannis Panayiotou, confirmed that criminal prosecutions are ongoing against sports clubs that have failed to pay their social insurance contributions. He clarified that social insurance debts and tax debts are handled under different legal frameworks.

Current law does not allow for long-term payment plans, and employers must pay contributions monthly. If payments are delayed, legal action is taken, leading to potential prosecutions. These cases can only be withdrawn if the debts are fully settled.

The Minister stressed that all debtors, including businesses and individuals, are subject to the same legal obligations.
