Apollon Limassol have formally introduced British financier Gabriel Craig as part of their administrative team, marking what club president Nikos Kirzis described as “a historic moment and the beginning of a new era” for the Limassol side. Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Kirzis emphasised the significance of Craig’s involvement, citing the club’s achievements over the past 13 years and framing the agreement as a key step towards future growth. “This is a decisive day in Apollon’s history,” Kirzis stated. “Our aim was not to create impressions but to strengthen the club through meaningful action. We faced criticism, but today we are moving forward together.” Kirzis confirmed that the agreement involves a capital increase and share acquisition, though further details were not disclosed. He noted that both parties are aligned on the club’s direction and that future decisions will be taken jointly. Craig’s Statement In his first address, Craig spoke warmly of Cyprus and his decision to join Apollon: “Cyprus has become a place my family and I love being, and I can see myself spending a lot of time here. When we began exploring football opportunities on the island, we visited five or six clubs. From the moment we met Nikos and the Apollon family, it just felt right. I’m a big believer in gut feeling, and that’s how the decision was made.” Craig admitted that, as a lifelong Liverpool supporter, adopting Apollon’s blue and white colours would be an adjustment. However, he highlighted how quickly his family had embraced the club: “My two boys already wear their Apollon shirts more than Liverpool ones -that says it all.” He confirmed that initial plans include assessing the current playing squad and nurturing existing talent, while also introducing expertise to strengthen the team. “There will be investment in infrastructure,” Craig added, “but this isn’t the time to go into detail. Over the coming weeks, fans will see developments and announcements that we believe will delight them.” Long-Term Vision Craig indicated that his involvement will begin as a co‑ownership arrangement and stressed that he views Cyprus as a long-term commitment. Both he and Kirzis suggested further information on structural and sporting plans would follow in the near future. The press conference ended on a note of optimism, with Apollon supporters hopeful that Craig’s arrival could provide stability and renewed ambition ahead of the coming season.
