The 2025–26 Protathlima season kicked off with AEL sealing a 2-0 victory over newly promoted Olympiakos, courtesy of a debut double from striker Morgan Ferrier.

Ferrier opened his account in the 21st minute, glancing in a header from Sergio Conceição’s cross. It was also a debut assist for Conceição, who arrived at AEL this summer after registering 11 assists for Anorthosis last season.

The new-look attack struck again before half-time. Olympiakos goalkeeper Talichmanidis launched a clearance upfield, but AEL’s Keller rose highest to nod it straight back into Ferrier’s path. With his back to goal some 20 yards out, the Englishman controlled superbly before swivelling and unleashing a fierce strike into the net for his second of the night

Olympiakos offered little threat in return, though they were handed a lifeline late on. AEL keeper Victor Braga clattered into Orhan Dzepar while attempting a punch, leaving the referee no choice but to award a penalty. Braga, however, redeemed himself instantly by diving low to his right to deny Da Silva from the spot, ensuring AEL’s clean sheet remained intact.

At full-time, AEL boss Paolo Tramezzani was full of praise for both his players and the home support:

“Every premiere, in any event, is not easy and we knew it. We played with great respect for the opponent, because we analysed them and found they are a very good team with a very good coach, George Kostis, with whom I have worked in the past.

We are very happy with the victory in front of this atmosphere created by our fans and in this fantastic stadium. The players have given their all from the very beginning. In difficult times we must stand by each other and function as a family.

I’m very happy for both the players and the fans. Even the penalty that Victor Braga saved was celebrated with the fans behind the goal. It’s a privilege for me to represent this club with these supporters.”
